When Cooper Union, a private college of art, architecture and engineering, raised 2.7 million for a new academic building, they wanted a way to show their gratitude towards those who contributed. Alumni Roof Terrace, located on the eighth floor of the new 41 Cooper Square building, creatively integrated engraved names of alumni who made significant contributions to the school in black granite pavers and incorporated those into the floor of the rooftop terrace. With expansive views of the New York City skyline, the terrace has become a popular gathering for student and alumni alike.
Creating a roof system that did not damage the underlying roof structure if the new facility was of utmost importance as was creating an attractive, modern outdoor space. The Versadjust Pedestal System, Bison’s industrial quality product line, is durable and functional and would ensure that the custom pavers and rooftop environment would stand the test of time and honor those who have contributed to Cooper Union’s legacy.
