Project Description

This Mediterranean-style home in Berkeley, California was in need of an update after more than two decades of ownership. After saving money for nearly a decade, the owners hired Sogno Design Group overhaul the kitchen, add two new bedrooms and create a stunning rooftop deck with views of the San Francisco Bay. The bungalow’s rooftop deck, connected to the master bedroom, uses Bison Innovative Product 2’ x 2’ ribbed ipê wood tiles on top of steel joists. The slip-free wood deck tiles offered a safe wood deck installation above living space, which allowed for optimal waterproofing. The ipê wood tiles can be lifted to clean underneath or to inspect the roof membrane.

The perfectly level deck was installed flush with the interior finish floors to create a seamless space from indoor to out. The pedestals allow for easy leveling of the deck and adjust for any slope and protect the roofing below from puncturing or other damage. The steps to the master bedroom were customized by the contractor out of extra Bison wood deck tiles for a customizable solution for this beautiful bungalow remodel.
